ASSET - THE GAMBIA : Supporting members to succeed

CULTURAL ENCOUNTERS' VISITORS INFORMATION CENTRE

ASSET (Association for Small Scale Enterprises in Tourism) works to promote the goods and services of the 82 member organisations in The Gambia. Thanks to the set-up funding provided by the Plymouth-Banjul Challenge, ASSET has been able to establish a central information centre for visitors to The Gambia, as well as local residents, to learn about ASSET members.

This centre displays promotional materials as well as merchandise, and is run by two members of staff who have a wide range of knowledge and information about members, and can access the internet for further relevant information.

The staff can arrange visits to the member organisations, which include artists, crafts people, places to stay and eat, community-based organisations, fashion designers, beauty therapists, and other service providers. The centre is found on the first floor of Timbooktoo, The Gambia's leading bookshop, located in Bakau New Town, and is run by a management structure which includes people from both ASSET and Timbooktoo.

In order to make the environment more comfortable and welcoming (as well as to finance the running of the centre), a simple café has been established, with comfortable seating, serving hot and cold drinks and snacks. This café is known as Mango Café, as the symbol for ASSET is the mango.

It is hoped that all those reading this webpage who are able to visit us will come and find out about ASSET members and sample the food and drink available. You're welcome! For further enquiries, Contact :
