ASSET - THE GAMBIA : Supporting members to succeed

EQUIGAMBIA

The main objective of the Equigambia association is to improve the local added-value of young tailors and dyers (batik, tie– and –dye) to help them create their own independent businesses and find markets for them, within and outside The Gambia. The main product, the Equigambia Collection, is a range of beautiful relatively inexpensive garments and accessories which will suit a wide range of taste and sizes.

To achieve this purpose, the Equigambia project is divided into three separate sections:

1. A training centre to improve skills in the sewing, tie-and-dye and batik arts.

2. A production activity whereby the dyers and tailors produce designs from the Equigambia Collection for the Association. It is managed like a co-operative; buying the raw materials and giving orders to the workers who are paid a fair price for their work.

3. A commercial section to sell the Equigambia Collection items abroad - mainly through Fair Trade channels - and within The Gambia to tourists, expatriates and Gambians, through fashion shows in hotels and various other events.

Welcome to the workshop and make your choice in the showroom

of Equigambia in the Village Gallery, Kololi.
