Gambia River Excursions Ltd. was founded in 1982 by Peter Losen and Monika Killi. Today it represents a vast range of activities. Perhaps the most known is Lamin Lodge, a bar/restaurant on stilts overlooking the mangroves of the river Gambia.

Another flagbearer of ARE is Janjang Bureh Camp, a peaceful riverside camp 350 km from the Gambian capital in one of the most beautiful regions of the country.

Each of these operating bases harbours a fleet of boats, ranging from 2-person kayaks to four 40-passenger sailing boats with kitchen, toilet and sleeping facilities. All boats can be rented as part of a scheduled excursion from the hotel area or at the spot in Lamin Lodge or Janjang Bureh Camp. For groups we do recommend to book in advance.

For independent travelers we also offer a choice of several 2 week round trips in both Gambia, Senegal and Guinea. All round trips are organized by our subsidiary Africa for Brginners.
